A teenager at the time, Sox as he’s affectionately known, was the centerpiece of a budding hip-hop and R&B starved Toronto. Father Time was the single that started it all; a timeless and hypnotizing beat put him on the underground watch list. Skip to 1998, Saukrates signed to Warner L.A. at 17 years old. He was rolling towards making it happen for his Toronto brethren! As an artist, Sox' career with major labels has been a roller coaster ride. After living through mergers and corporate changes, Soxx put out "the underground tapes lp", which was well received, selling over 100,000 units independently, ultimately expanding his fan base to the world. After writing and producing the majority of what was "hot" in Canadian urban music during the late 90’s through 2005, Sox decided to suspend all side projects and focus, again, on his solo career. The beneficiaries of Saukrates artistry in one way or another can attest to the impact he has had on their current careers. Kardinal Offishall, Jully Black, Divine Brown to name a few. Through Saukrates' travels, he’s worked with most of the Hip Hop generation's "who’s who" list of Icons like Black Thought (The Roots), Method Man, Common, Redman and Xzibit . In 2006-2008, Saukrates took the world by storm with Nelly Furtado, opening all the tour dates AND backing up Nelly (vocals/percussion) in over 75 cities worldwide! The "POP" world now understood what avid Hip-Hop fans have known for years.. The respect Sox garnered over his journey has turned business relationships to true friendships. Now venturing into acting we may soon see Sox on the Big screen in 2010. Along with his personal projects, "Big Black Lincoln" and his only side project that he still holds on too; the incredible "Andreena Mill", Saukrates is focused and prepared to once again spin Hip Hop in his direction, not departing from the philosophical, introspective m.c. and storyteller. Saukrates has expanded his repertoire, letting his song writing and vocal skill shine, putting his dynamic appeal in the world's spotlight. In 2008, Saukrates is currently in business with Universal and with a new album done, a renewed energy, the reemergence of “Father Time” is eminen. |
